In surfing, shoulder surfing refers to shoulder hopping (aka snaking). Shoulder hoppers do not take off on the critical part of the wave where there is a need for a high level of skill, but take off further down the line. They are often regarded as annoying by more experienced surfers because shoulder hoppers will sometimes drop in on a surfer already riding the wave – which breaches surfing etiquette of "first on wave (or, closest to the curl) has right of way". SoCal early eighties band the Surf Punks performed a song called Shoulder Hopper for their album My Beach.

Single Fin Classic Festival 2011
Come da tempo annunciato si terrà a fine settembre, in Versilia, l'annuale Festival organizzato dall'associazione SingleFin SEA.

La crescita dall'originale Classic Longboard Festival, che è stato da tutti indicato come "pietra miliare" nella storia recente del surf italico, ci ha portato ad una evoluzione dettata dall'esperienza e da un'atteggiamento volutamente low-profile, per dare spazio a ciò che veramente conta e cioè la passione per il mare. Per questo non ci sarà nessuno sponsor, nessun brand a sostenerci e la manifestazione sarà come sempre negli ultimi quattro anni indipendente e completamente autofinanziata.
Quindi ci sarà largo spazio a tutto ciò che è nella nostra ottica strettamente collegato al surf, con particolare riguardo agli aspetti ambientali, alla custom-culture ed allo shaping. Ampio spazio sarà dato quindi a longboards, retrò, fish, bonzers, eggs, hulls, simmons, ma non solo: tutto ciò che è design ed innovazione ispirato alle golden-era del surfing è bene accetto.
Una particolare attenzione sarà riservata alle tavole realizzate in legno, in quanto ospiteremo il "wooden surfboards day" europa 2011.
Inoltre arte, pin striping, kustom design e molto altro ancora.
All'interno del festival, compatibilmente con le condizioni meteo-marine, si terrà un contest invitational noseriding nella formula "Walk that Plank".
Come sempre le sorprese non mancheranno nel corso della giornata per tutti i presenti..
